Kinderdance Class Descriptions

Kinderdance® is:

Planned, developmentally-designed movement classes (dance, gymnastics, fitness) for children ages  2- 10 years-old.  Unlike traditional dance schools, Kinderdance® stresses free-movement exploration and gross motor development, while weaving in age-appropriate academic concepts, such as colors, numbers, shapes, and vocabulary words. The result is a fun, engaging class that builds a strong foundation in dance, fitness and acrobatics, as well as increases confidence, body awareness, and mental development.  Kinderdance East Bay proudly teaches the following Kinderdance® classes and camps throughout the east bay.

Kinderdance® Levels 1-3 (ages 3-7) is a developmental dance, motor skills, movement, and fitness program taught on 3 levels, teaching the basics of Ballet, Tap, Gymnastics and Creative Movement. Ballet and tap shoes are recommended but not required. Boys may wear Jazz shoes as an alternative to ballet shoes. Length: 45- 60 mins. once a week or as a daily camp.

Kindergym® Levels 1-2 (ages 3-5) is a developmental floor gymnastics program with emphasis on social and gross motor development, physical fitness, movement, and fun. Children also learn shapes, colors, number and words.  Athletic shoes required. Length: 30- 45 mins. once a week or as a daily camp.

Kindertots® (age 2) is an age-appropriate program, designed to develop gross motor skills, movement creativity, physical development (flexibility, strength, balance, coordination), tumbling, body awareness and communication skills, while learning numbers, colors and shapes through nursery rhyme songs.  Length: 20-25 mins. once a week.

Kindercombo® Levels 1-3 (ages 6-8) is a developmentally designed combination Ballet, Tap, Modern Dance, and Fitness program. This gives the young dance student a healthy and solid foundation upon which to build. Ballet and tap shoes are recommended but not required. Boys may wear Jazz shoes as an alternative to ballet shoes. Length: 45-60 mins. once a week.

Kindermotion® (ages 3-10, divided) is a developmentally designed program that focuses on motor skills, physical development, fitness, nutrition and imagery.  It prepares students' minds and bodies for athletic and academic pursuits. Length: 45-60 mins. once a week or as a daily camp.

What are Kinderdance® Classes Like?

How Kinderdance® Works

Before children learn to walk, they crawl, and before they crawl, they move their arms and legs.  Mastering such gross motor movements in a planned, developmental movement program, like Kinderdance®, helps children to fully develop their bodies and their minds. Creativity is a perfect example of this. It evolves over time and is enhanced through age-appropriate music, art and movement classes, where children are given both direction and freedom to consider. The long-term benefit: a problem-solving mind is a creative mind!

Problem solving and language development are key outcomes of the Kinderdance® programs. When it comes to movement, both structured and unstructured, the possibilities for thinking creatively are endless, and the children love the challenge of learning to move their bodies in a variety of ways.

Blending academics is a natural progression in the Kinderdance® curriculum, and it’s fun!  Learning vocabulary words is fun when they come to life, like learning "Circle" by moving your arms in a circle or hopping around a circle.

Kinderdance® programs use many strategies to reinforce the brain-body connection.  Sequencing a combination of movements, for instance, helps to develop memory, and placing your body in various shapes, promotes balance and coordination, especially when asked to move from shape to shape as the music changes in tempo and mood.

Kinderdance® programs take the growing nervous system into account by stimulating a child’s many senses throughout class, which ensures that their mind and body are working as one. And since we all learn differently, Kinderdance® instructors teach to all of the senses in a variety of different ways. This eclectic approach to learning allows the children to learn and grow at their own pace.
